Pat Sloan has been “creating” since she was a child. From her first “shoebox dioramas” to sketches for a fabric line, her creative energy is always flowing. When she tried her hand at quilting in 1989, she fell in love and never looked back. While working as a software developer and project manager for computers, her evenings and weekends were spent building her design business. In 2000, she and her husband took the leap and opened made “Pat Sloan” a full-time family business. You’ll still find Gregg managing all of the behind-the-scenes activities.
Design was clearly where Pat belonged – since 1998, every national quilting magazine has published Pat’s quilts. More than thirty-two books have been published by Leisure Arts and Martingale with her name on it as the author. She’s also published many, many patterns. She has partnered with American Patchwork & Quilting for an internationally popular online radio show. The weekly show can be hard live or via the archives – every show has been recorded.
A self-proclaimed “computer geek”, Pat has been involved with computers since she was sixteen and a single computer filled the entire back wall of her math class. She loves the internet and online communities so you’ll find her in all the best quilting and sewing techie-places. From blogs to Yahoo groups, quilting forums to Facebook communities, spending time with Pat every day is easily done.
The Splendid Sampler™ is Pat’s latest project. Partnering with fellow Moda designer, Jane Davidson of Franny & Jane, the Sampler is a year-long sew-along with participants from all over the world. New 6″ x 6″ original blocks designed by fellow designers are published every week at The Splendid Sampler™.
Look for Pat in your area as she and Gregg travel many times a year for presentations and workshops – all to share Pat’s passion to help others harness their creative energy.
